Clean Simple Eats doesn't have the biggest marketing budget in protein powder, but it has something more useful: an independent lab result that says its whey is the cleanest of the bunch. We're featuring it instead of Orgain, which is facing an active 2026 class action over lead, cadmium, and arsenic levels in its organic protein powders.
It's a grass-fed whey protein isolate-based powder (plant options also available), non-GMO, nothing artificial, soy-free, at 20 g protein per serving (product page). Every batch is tested for precision, potency, and purity — including heavy metals, microbes, pathogens, and pesticides — at ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited, FDA-registered labs including Eurofins and Summit Nutritional Laboratories (Clean Simple Eats standards, help center).
In a January 2026 Consumer Reports test of five protein powders, Clean Simple Eats' whey-based powder had the lowest lead level of any brand tested — 0.21 micrograms per serving, just 42% of Consumer Reports' level of concern (Consumer Reports). The company states its internal spec limit for lead is under 0.5 mcg/serving (Target Q&A).
No recalls or lawsuits found. The honest caveat: it doesn't hold NSF Certified for Sport, USP Verified, or Informed Sport/Choice certification, so athletes subject to drug testing may want a different brand even though the underlying safety testing looks strong (ScienceInsights). Compared to Orgain's ongoing litigation, this is the clear safer pick if lead exposure is your top concern.
